Be Optimistic

Be Optimistic

Whether you need help to continue being optimistic or you need something to help you find some optimism for the coming weeks, these five tips are for you:

It is never too late to change your lifestyle

"Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending." Maria Robinson

Sometimes it may feel like you have been on the same path and stuck in the same habits for so long that you are permanently stuck in your current way of life. It does not have to be that way though - people of all ages make positive changes to their lifestyle and the way they eat. You may not be able to change your lifestyle in the way you want right now, but work with what you have and where you are right now by making small changes if that is what is possible. That small change to your lifestyle and success will give you confidence and you can build upon that to make more and perhaps even bigger changes over the next few weeks.

Do not make mountains out of molehills

"If you break your neck, if you have nothing to eat, if your house is on fire, then you've got a problem. Everything else is inconvenience." Robert Fulghum

It is easy to let your thoughts spin away and to let them grow from a thought or a situation into a big and very scary monster in your mind. Do not let this happen – As soon as you become aware of what you are doing, say “Stop! I am not going there!” Then ask yourself if this thought or situation will matter in 4 months or 4 years? The answer is usually no and you will feel much calmer and ready to continue on.

View your troubles in a more helpful way

"What seems to us as bitter trials are often blessings in disguise." Oscar Wilde

It is easy to be dragged down by troubles that are not as big as they seem, but if viewed in a more optimistic way, they may still be hard to go through, but you can act on them in a more productive way. Look at what the opportunity in the situation may be or how the experience will help you in the long run. This will help you to make good use of a situation that may seem negative at first. And by doing this process over and over you are less afraid of making mistakes or failing because you know from experience that by handling them in a smart way you have gained many benefits and grown as a person.

Always focus on the small steps

"Having a positive mental attitude is asking how something can be done rather than saying it can't be done."  Bo Bennett

When you have found an opportunity in what seemed like a negative situation, focus on what you can do and take action on. What is one small step you can take today to move forward with changing your lifestyle? Just take that one small step today…then another tomorrow. The small steps tend to add up quickly and they will give you more confidence that will allow you to take even bigger steps.

Reduce and learn to handle worries

"When I look back on all these worries, I remember the story of the old man who said on his deathbed that he had had a lot of trouble in his life, most of which had never happened." Winston Churchill

Worries can be very destructive and most of the things you fear will never happen. If they do happen, they will most often not be as painful or bad as you expected. Worrying is most often just a waste of the time you have here. When you start to worry, say “Stop! I am not going there!” Then ask yourself, how many of your worries and things you have feared came into reality in the past. The answer is usually very few. By repeating this over and over this quick process becomes a habit and starts to pop up often quite automatically when your mind starts to worry about something and that will be a wonderful help.
