Cravings

Postby Sarah » 11 Apr 2012, 13:59

I have a bit of a sweet tooth...okay maybe a big one! :o and I think I may have finally got it under control for the time being. When ever I have something sweet, it is a short term feeling of comfort which is followed by hunger, cravings and tiredness - definitely not worth it! While I was on my Eating Plan, I found a number of things helped with my cravings that I wanted to share:

  • I took a liquid Chromium supplement every morning. I just put one capful in the water I take my vitamins with and it has no taste, smell or colour. Liquid tends to work a bit quicker than the tablets (I tried them too). The clinic also recommends Blackmore’s Sugar Balance tablets – if you would prefer a tablet.
  • I also found things to distract myself when I had cravings: I brushed my teeth, went for a walk, prepared my next couple of meals, watched my recorded tv shows, had a long bath, phoned a friend to have an overdue chat… by the time I did one of these, the cravings had passed and I felt stronger for it.

Over time the cravings have gotten better and I think my blood sugar level may be normal now. It takes time, but it is worth it!
Anything is possible - It is my choice whether or not I choose to make it happen!

Hi Sarah,

Sugar Balance is fine, but I am finding 12 weeks into the program that I am actually craving something sweet.

I would love to try the liquid chromium. Are you able to recommend a brand or the one that you took whilst on the program?

Thanks

Hi M,

I take the Fullhealth Industries - High Purity Chromium Colloid.

If you cannot get it from your clinic, I have seen it at health food stores or some chemists too. It is about $20 for 500ml - so lasts quite a while.

My homeopath also suggested taking magnesium at night - the chromium and magnesium seem to work together to combat cravings and normalise blood sugar levels (obviously with good diet too).
Anything is possible - It is my choice whether or not I choose to make it happen!

Thanks Sarah.

I've found Blackmore's Sugar Balance (chromium + magnesium) to be very helpful.

Thanks Sarah;
Blackmore's Sugar Balance is great. But the most common food cravings are for sugar because of the instant sense of euphoria you get after eating a donut, cookie or other sugary product. Sugar floods the brain with the feel good hormone dopamine.

I've now tried the liquid chromium and I agree, works far better (and easier to drink) than the sugar balance.

Totally agree Leslie, did you ever read David Gillespie's Sweet Poison? Amazing stuff! http://www.abc.net.au/radionational/pro ... il/3076820

Haven't tried the chromium.....but OMG I sure have read that book, changed my lifetime view on sugar that did.........I'll just never look at it the same way. And after i"m come off Cohen's the first time, I found that everything tasted so incredibly and sickly sweet!!!
Insanity - doing the same thing over and over but expecting a different result!!!!
